In 2015, Ford stunned the automotive industry by switching to aluminum for much of the F-150’s body. This switch made the F-150 more efficient, more capable, and helped prevent future rusting. Now, three years later, Ford once again makes some big changes to the F-150, this time with a new engine lineup, interior improvements, and better technology.
With these changes, the 2018 Ford F-150 won a resounding victory by being named Motor Trend’s 2018 Truck of the Year. According to editor Chris Walton, the win came with a unanimous vote. He said, “It was a pretty resounding win. Nothing really came close.”
Ford stood out from the competition thanks to its wide range of available models, impressive engine lineup, and easy-to-use technology.
Motor Trend tested a variety of F-150 models, including the F-150 4x2 SuperCab XL, F-150 4x4 SuperCrew Lariat, F-150 4x4 SuperCrew Platinum, and F-150 Raptor SuperCrew. Testers found each model impressive for its capabilities, even the base XL model, which could easily tow a trailer that weighed more than the truck itself.
Another standout in the competition was the F-150 Lariat’s 2.7-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 that makes an impressive 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. This engine delivers both impressive power and precise handling.
